About Us

Reiki Training was founded by Andy Chrysostomou and Dawn Mellowship, both authors, journalists and Reiki practitioners and teachers. Andy and Dawn have taught Reiki to hundreds of students from across the globe from far-reaching destinations, including: America, Australia, Kuwait, Jordan, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia and many other countries.

Andy and Dawn pride themselves on teaching comprehensive, professional and traditional Reiki training, with an emphasis on working directly on presenting conditions and problems, whether they are physical, emotional or spiritual in origin. In line with traditional Japanese culture focus, intention and concentration are required in order for Reiki to be effective. Mantras, sound and shapes (in the form of the Reiki symbols) are all key components. Western Reiki teachers are fond of referring to themselves as Reiki Masters, but in truth only the teachings up to Beginner Teacher level were exported to the West, so Andy and Dawn are happy to acknowledge that they are Reiki Teachers and perhaps one day in the future they will truly be Reiki Masters, but this takes many many years.

Both avid fans of Reiki and living a spiritual life, Andy and Dawn are passionate Reiki teachers who love sharing Mikao Usui’s Reiki vision with their Reiki students.

Andy Chrysostomou

Andy has a background in telecommunications engineering and particle physics, among other things. He is also a member of MENSA and has written a Reiki book and contributed articles and features to a number of online blogs. His interest in Reiki was piqued after developing severe spondylosis of the spine – degenerative osteoarthritis in the vertebrae. Andy was told by doctors that he would be crippled and resigned himself to being wheelchair bound. When a fried suggested he attend a mind, body, spirit event he was completely disinterested, but went along anyway and signed up for a Reiki course. He instantly regretted doing this and was given the opportunity at a later time to cancel, but he found himself maintaining the booking.

After attending his Reiki training Andy was standing on the tube and realised, much to his amazement, that he was no longer in any pain. With subsequent self-healing Andy’s mobility was completely restored and he now exercises six times per week, enjoying qi gong, krav maga, boxing and weight training. For Andy, Reiki truly performed a miracle! As Mikao Usui, the founder of Reiki said,

Reiki, the art of inviting happiness, the miraculous medicine of all diseases.

Dawn Mellowship

Dawn studied a BA in Politics at Sheffield University prior to learning Reiki and subsequently after finding her true calling also penned four books, became a features editor for a women’s lifestyle magazine – interviewing celebrities on their health and well-being and contributing features and taught herself web design.

Dawn decided to learn Reiki after developing back problems that were diagnosed as a number of things by different specialists and doctors. She was later found to be suffering from hypermobility, a condition where ligaments are overly flexible, sometimes due to a lack of collagen, which contributed to the later onset of chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), fibromyalgia and Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).

After learning Reiki Dawn practiced self-healing religiously and began to use Reiki to help those around her. She was stunned when a work colleague was able to come off of her pain killers after a single treatment for ankylosing spondylitis.

Prior to discovering Reiki Dawn was lacking focus and direction but made a commitment to become a Reiki practitioner and spread Usui’s teachings. With renewed self-confidence Dawn found the courage to change her partying lifestyle and opt for an organic diet, as well as writing several spiritual books and Toxic Beauty, a book about the hazardous chemicals frequently used in cosmetics.

Dawn’s battle with illness is still ongoing but without daily self-healing she would be bed-ridden. Fortunately with the aid of Reiki she has been able to still live a rich and fulfilling life, despite her ill health. Dawn says,

Reiki isn’t just another complementary therapy. Reiki is the way of the universe.
